GU NIANNIAN forced herself to stay calm, and started babbling nonsense, “When you woke up at the hospital last night, you must’ve been so moved by my kindness and thoughtfulness that you came all the way to the set just to see me.”
“Moved?” Pei Jingzhi shot back.
Honestly, there’s no way she could possibly admit that out loud.
Gu Niannian flashed a sweet smile. “I knocked you out and still bothered to call an ambulance for you. Isn’t that kind and thoughtful enough?”
【Okay... that made sense.】Even Meng was convinced.
Pei Jingzhi stared at her. “Gu Niannian, how can you be this shameless?”
He was genuinely curious what on earth went on in her head.
“Shameless? I don’t think so,” she replied instantly, “I just told the truth.”
Just then, the waiter came in, set down the dishes, and slipped out politely.
Pei Jingzhi glanced at her happily digging into the food. “Don’t play dumb. I just want you to explain what you’ve done to me last night and why.”
“You mean knocking you out, or sneaking into your hotel room to take advantage of you? If it’s the first, that was self-defense. If it’s the second, well, without your consent, there’s no way I’d have gotten a key card to your room.” Gu Niannian tossed it off.
【You’ve got a point! Pei Jingzhi wanted to see you make a fool of yourself, and now he’s the one suffering for it.】Meng gave her a virtual thumbs up.
Pretending to be narcissistic, Gu Niannian said, “Come on, Pei Jingzhi, admit it. You’re just dying for me to toy with your body and soothe your lonely soul.”
Her bold words actually stunned Pei Jingzhi. Seriously? A plastic-surgery addict who snuck into his room, failed to seduce him, and then knocked him out—now thought he had fallen for her?
Gu Niannian wiped her mouth and sat back, satisfied. “Anyway, this meal was delightful. Let’s part ways with dignity, shall we?”
Translation—Don’t ever show your face around me again.
As she turned to leave, he grabbed her for the third time. Addicted to hugging me now? But she remembered Pei Jingzhi was supposed to be frigid, totally uninterested in women.
Holding her by the waist, Pei Jingzhi lowered his gaze and tucked a loose strand behind her ear. “I’ll take you back.”
“Huh?” she squinted at him, suspicious. What game was he playing now?
Pei Jingzhi gave a dangerous smile. “You’re right. I do crave your touch… and your comfort for my lonely soul.”
Holy shit, what a creep! He was saying that just to disgust her.
Gu Niannian shoved him away. “I hope you find someone soon who can actually meet your… needs.”
“You’re right here,” he said with his eyes half-closed, savoring her panic, “And you can grant my wish.”
Last night, his assistant told him the tabloids were already running with the headline—Pei Jingzhi and Gu Niannian’s Wild Night. They even claimed they’d gone so hard he ended up hospitalized. Who gave Gu Niannian the guts to think she could use him and walk away unscathed?
“Too bad, I’m not cut out for that line of work.” Gu Niannian edged toward the door, tossed out a quick “bye,” and yanked it open at top speed.
Pei Jingzhi loosened his tie, watching her flee. “You can’t escape me, Gu Niannian.”
Her body froze for a beat, then she bolted from the mess as fast as she could.
Back on set, Gu Niannian had barely caught her breath when Zhou Rui barged into her dressing room and slammed the door shut behind him.
“Where did you go with Pei Jingzhi? What did you two do?” he loomed over her like he had the right to question anything. Just because she left with another man in front of him.
Gu Niannian didn’t even look at him. Adjusting her hairpin in the mirror, she said, “Do you actually care?”
“I can’t believe you’re this kind of person.” Zhou Rui’s voice dripped with disappointment.
Was there not a single decent, kind girl left in this world?
Gu Niannian barked out a hysterical laugh. “So let me get this straight. You expect me to hand you resources, let you climb into some sugar mama’s bed and cheat on me, while I stay chaste for you?”
“If we’re both tired of each other, then let’s just break up.” Zhou Rui's face turned pale.
He’d been worried she’d blackmail him over the whole sugar mommy situation. But now that she’d “cheated” too, he had nothing to worry about.
Gu Niannian turned to him, eyes sharp. “So you’ve used me up, and now it’s time to bail.”
“Oh babe, you make it sound so bad,” he shrugged, all smug confidence. “We were just comforting each other. If you don’t enjoy me, someone else will.”
If he hadn’t seen profit in her back then, he wouldn’t have chased after a plastic surgery freak!
